At 2 years old, children discover the world with their hands, their eyes, and even their feet! Manual activities are ideal for awakening their creativity, developing their fine motor skills and their senses. Here we suggest a few simple and playful ideas, perfect for keeping your little curious ones busy at home.
To prepare homemade modeling clay, you will need 300 g (3 cups) of flour, 100 g (1 cup) of salt, 250 ml (1 cup) of water, 80 ml (1/3 cup) of cooking oil, and a little powder paint or food coloring to add color.
Simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you get a smooth dough. Your child can then knead it, roll it out, and have fun creating all kinds of shapes.
With a few cookie cutters and utensils, they can roll the dough, make small shapes, or simply let their imagination run wild.
Simply mix 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 1 cup of water until you get a smooth, easy-to-handle dough. Then roll out the dough and let your child press their hand into it. Once the creation is finished, leave it to air-dry or put it in the oven at a low temperature to preserve it. You can then paint or decorate it to keep a lovely keepsake.
Let your child have fun exploring colors, mixing them, and letting their imagination run free on paper. To add variety, you can print shapes or characters to fill in, add stamps, sponges, or foam pieces to create different textures, and even invent little animals, flowers, or landscapes with their hands. A wonderful way to create a unique little masterpiece to treasure forever.
Fill a bottle with glitter, seeds, colored water, or small light objects, and let your child discover all the surprises inside. They can shake it to watch the movements, listen to the different sounds depending on the objects inside, or simply hold it and observe the colors and textures blending together. This calming activity captures children's attention while stimulating their curiosity and sense of observation. You can even make several different bottles!
For this activity, start by drawing a hedgehog on a fairly large piece of cardboard. Then take about ten cotton swabs, cut them in half, and color them brown. Make a few small holes in the hedgehog's spines, then let your child have fun sticking the cotton swabs into the holes to form the spikes. It's a meticulous activity that stimulates concentration, while delighting your child… and you too!
