Upcycling: 5 great ideas to reuse our cardboard boxes!

Because at Petit Picotin we care deeply about our beautiful planet, we invite you to reuse all our cardboard boxes to give them a second life. Here are some creative activity ideas to keep your children entertained while raising their awareness of upcycling.

The garage

Did you know all it takes is a large cardboard box to build a great garage?

First, lay it flat by cutting the corners with scissors or a box cutter. Then create small rims of a few centimeters all around for the walls by taping the corners. Finally, make a small opening (in the middle or elsewhere) to let vehicles go in and out.

Children can then have fun: drawing the road, road markings, parking spaces, traffic lights… And off they go to park all their cars! Practical and fun for lasting play.

How about a memory game created by your children? Simply cut out small square pieces of cardboard of identical size. Children can then draw whatever they like, in pairs, and the game is ready! Flip all the cards over and all that's left is to find the matching pairs. A very simple and fun game to make that stimulates the whole family's memory. Who would have thought upcycling could be this fun!

The maze

The boxes that come with your Petit Picotin orders are perfect for making this game! Cut one in half horizontally to get a base with sides. Collect some toilet paper or paper towel rolls, cut them into 2 or 3 pieces, number them, and tape them to the base to create small fixed tunnels.

The game: guide a small ball through the tunnels in the correct numerical order!

A great game to stimulate children's concentration and coordination… and show them how important it is to reuse objects to make great toys!

Fancy a round of golf in the living room? Take a large cardboard box and cut off the top. Turn it upside down so the bottom faces up.

Then cut out openings, larger or smaller depending on the ball size and the child's age. Number them: the numbers correspond to the points scored when the ball goes into the box.

For the finishing touch, make a small flag from a piece of cardboard and place it on top! Easy to set up, this golf course is perfect for having fun!

The computer

With remote working, children dream of only one thing: tapping away on our fantastic computer keyboards! What if you helped them make one? It'll be the most affordable MacBook on the market, that's for sure!

Simply cut a large piece of cardboard into a rectangle and fold it in half. From the leftover cardboard, cut out small squares and glue them onto the lower half to make the keyboard keys. Children can write the letters themselves, color the screen background, and why not add a nice apple on the front! A homemade toy that's ideal for learning the alphabet!
