What to put on my baby registry

You're expecting a happy event and wondering where to start with your baby registry? Don't panic! Between the everyday essentials, the personal favorites, and the gifts you'd never have thought to ask for, we've put together a complete example baby registry to guide you. The goal: for baby to arrive in the best possible conditions… and for you to receive gifts that truly reflect who you are.

Why create a baby registry?

A baby registry is a bit like the best service you can do for everyone — yourself and your loved ones. No more duplicate gifts, oversized onesies, or giant stuffed animals eating up half the nursery. Your loved ones, as sweet as they are, don't necessarily know what you're missing, what you've already bought, or what you truly love. The registry is the perfect guide to help them choose well without spending hours wondering what to get. And on a practical level, it also has a significant advantage: your loved ones can pool together to fund the big purchases (the stroller, the car seat…), and for you, it helps spread out your expenses. Everyone wins, really.

When should you create your baby registry?

Like with Christmas lists, there are the planners and the last-minute fans. Good news: there's no hard and fast rule! You can prepare it whenever you like. On our end, the mom team at Petit Picotin recommends starting around the 3rd or 4th month of pregnancy, to give yourself time to really think about what you truly need.

Don't be afraid to share your list

We know, it can feel a little awkward to say "here's what I want as gifts". But let's be honest: if you don't share your list, there's a good chance you'll end up with a duplicate item… or worse, something that doesn't suit you at all. And warmly thanking someone for a gift you don't like is a lot more difficult than sending a link, isn't it?

A few tips for bringing it up without embarrassment:

- Slip it into an informal conversation
- Share it on your family group with a friendly little note
- Vary the budgets so everyone can contribute in their own way

The key is to present it lightly: it's an invitation, not an obligation. Your loved ones will thank you for it, we promise.

Quotes from your little ones

– Jeanne, 2 years old

« My nose is all stuffed up. (blocked) »
– Maël, 4 years old

« Mommy, are we tomorrow right now? »
– Léonard, 3 years old
