Simple snack ideas for kids

They dream of cakes and chocolate every day of the week. We dream of snacks that are good for the taste buds (and for your health!), quick to prepare, ideally zero waste and varied throughout the days. The Petit Picotin team shares its ideas!

On a walk or at school

Fruit in all its forms

- Fresh fruits: Opt for fruits that travel well in a snack box, that don't drip and can be eaten without cutlery: apples, clementines, apricots… depending on the season

- Fruit compote: fill a reusable compote pouch with your homemade compote or store-bought compote from large glass jars.

- Dried fruits: apricots, raisins, dates, cashews…

You'll find them in the bulk aisles of any supermarket. And if you have a little time on the weekend, you can bake a batch of cookies, madeleines or shortbread. A great activity idea to do with your children. These types of cakes keep very well for a week or more in an airtight container.

The bread and chocolate square combo

If you run out of snacks, a slice of bread left over from breakfast and two squares of chocolate will do just fine. Rice cakes are also a favorite with many children.

For drinks, no fuss — our lovely water bottle filled with water and you're all set! No more plastic bottles (but you already knew that). Let's think of our beautiful planet by passing on good habits to our children from the earliest age! Our "Glouglou" water bottle is made of stainless steel and keeps drinks hot or cold for over 6 hours!

Don't forget to stay well hydrated

At home

All seasonal fruits, to munch on or as compote

Other variations to get them to eat fruit:

- Banana crêpe (for little ones): all you need is an egg and a mashed banana. Mix it all together, and in the pan, it makes a banana crêpe. Delicious!

- Fruit coulis (quince, red fruits…) over a bowl of fromage blanc.

- A bowl of compote is even better with a little crunchy muesli sprinkled on top.

- French toast, made with leftover bread/brioche (or fresh bread). Mix an egg, sugar and milk, then dip the bread in it before frying in a pan. A quick and easy idea with a guaranteed wow effect!

- Homemade crêpes, a classic that never fails!

- Yogurt cake, almond cake, chocolate cake: very quick cakes to prepare (no need to beat egg whites to stiff peaks).
